FAN FAQ TOPICS: Are the fans strong enough? Will they stand up to heavy use (and abuse)? How long do they last? We started making fans in the late 1980s under the name Windjammer and have heard from many users that our original fans are still running great and being used regularly. In fact, we have never heard of a VENTRY Fan being taken out of service for having worn out! We have several thousand fans in service now and many are almost 20 years old! Our fans aren’t ugly; they’re engineered! The goal when designing VENTRY Fans was a lightweight, easy-to-operate, robust unit. We did not have much experience designing fire equipment at the time, only fighting fires. We did, however, have lots of time working with aircraft so we applied our aircraft design knowledge to the task. This meant that the fans had to be light; being over-designed or over-engineered would only mean extra weight for firefighters to carry. Our first fans came out between 1989 and 1990 and were very lightweight but, in our opinion, not maximum strength or durability. With a lot of work and feedback from the departments that used them, we now have a fan that is known to be robust. VENTRY Fans are often rolled down hills and stairs; they get picked up and placed right back in service. We tried to make it so that the inexpensive and easy-to-replace parts will bend before a major part is damaged. For instance, the legs bend before the frame and are cheap and easy to replace. Yet, out of the several thousand fans currently in service, we have replaced legs at only 12 fire departments and only one frame! As to the lifespan of the fans in general, our very first fan is still in use, and we have no reports of retired fans! It’s a good track record. In summary, VENTRY Fans are light enough for one person to operate yet will hold up to the demands of fire scenes. And we guarantee it. |
